Installing sp3

 I get a message that says:service pack 3 setup error,the system cannot find the file specified.I am running xp home edition with ie8 sp2 and I get this message when trying to install sp3.Microsoft wasn't much help.I tried to repair windows xp and went back to ie6 sp2 but anything I tried got the same message.Even tried to reinstall sp2 with the same message for sp2.Is there a fix?thank you.
